The Community Band for St Margarets, Twickenham and Richmond

About
The Full Story
The St Margarets Elastic Band was founded in 1998, and we took the ‘elastic’ name to indicate that we were flexible both in terms of music choices and growth, We positioned ourselves as a community band open to any players. As well as the wind, brass, drums and bass instruments we have today, we originally had keyboard, violin and accordion players. In one piece of promotional literature, it was jokingly suggested that we would even consider bagpipes. Luckily no one applied!

Over the years the band has evolved to be a dedicated concert wind band with woodwind and brass players, accompanied by drums and bass guitar. We are an inclusive band with a community focus, performing at local events such as community picnics, summer fairs, rememberance day and christmas markets to name a few.

We take bookings for gigs, so please do get in touch via our contact form if you are looking for some live music at your local event! We also like to collaborate with other local musicians, so if your group would like to work with us, please get in touch.

We welcomed our new Musical Director John Huggins in 2025, and the band continues to grow in exciting new directions. We are working on launching a youth section in the near future, to complement our existing adult players in performances. Watch this space as we release updates about our progress with this new community project.
